Greater DC Cares Servathon — Volunteer Day — Registration Closes May 17th!
Amidon Elementary School
It’s that time of year again. For the third year in a row the BU alumni club is forming a team to participate in the Servathon, a massive day of volunteering across the region. Thousands of people will be working on over 40 projects all around the DC area.
This year we’ve selected as our project Amidon Elementary School. Our primary task will be interior painting but we’ll also have some small side projects should anyone be ‘allergic’ to painting. Amidon Elementary is located near the Southwest Wharf , just a block from the Waterfront-SEU Metro station (Green line) and easily accessible by car. Click for Google Map
On the day of the Servathon, we’ll ask everyone to arrive at 8:45 am so we can begin working at 9am and we’ll go until about 12:30 . Afterwards, there’s a big come-as-you-are party (i.e.- come dirty) with hundreds people from all of the projects and free burgers, dogs, beer and soda at Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle .
To register for Servathon go to: www.servathon.org
- Click on Register Here
- Click on Join a Volunteer Team
- Choose Boston U. Alumni Club of DC
There you’ll enter some basic information about yourself and upon completion be brought to your own web page which you can use to recruit others and raise donations. There is a $15 registration fee (this covers bottled water, snacks and a t-shirt) and DC Cares requires that you set a fundraising goal. If don’t end up meeting your goal it’s not a problem- it’s simply a means of encouraging you to raise money.
If you are unable to participate or just dont like to get dirty, you can still get involved by sponsoring a BU team member or making a donation on behalf of the whole team- all contributions are tax-deductible. Weve already raised over $2000, making us the #1 fundraiser in the whole Servathon. Friends, family and co-workers are more than welcome to join us.
Check out the BU Servathon Team Web site to see how we’re doing!

Hat Trick Happy Hour BU-YAHH!
Caps vs. Bruins with BROOMBALL (vs. BC) and pre-game HH!!
Last year, the Caps vs. Bruins game was one of the Alumni Club's most popular events. This year it's going to be even better! Not only will we be playing broomball, but we''ll playing against BC--an early Beanpot match up! So join us at the Verizon Center on 11/15 to cheer on the teams.
We will start off the evening with the monthly BU-YAHH (for any newbies, that's our young alumni happy hour) from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. at McCormick and Schmick's, 901 F Street NW. Happy Hour specials include their $1.95 menu (1/2 lb. cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, quesadillas, and other items), $3 domestic drafts, $5 Smirnoff martinis, and $5 glasses of red and white wine.
The happy hour is followed up by the Caps vs. Bruins game at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 for Mezzanine seats which are regularly $35. They can be purchased at www.capstickets.com/newengland.html. When ordering your tickets, please put in the comments section of the order form (page 3) that you are with BU so that all alumni can sit together, otherwise we can't guarantee that you'll be sitting with alum from other schools.
Stick around after the game for BU vs. BC broomball on the ice of the Verizon Center! You must purchase a ticket to the Caps game in order to play or watch the broomball game. A team can only have 10 players per school so we'll conduct a lottery to determine our BU team. You must email Aliza (aliza @ alum.bu.edu ) by Nov 10th if you want to be considered for the broomball team. Only current dues-paying members of the Alumni Club or current Washington Program students will be eligible to play. Don't forget to wear your scarlett and white to cheer on the broomball team (especially if you're playing)!
The broomball victory will be celebrated after the game, all are welcome to join. Location will be determined by the victorious BU team, but will be in the immediate area surrounding the arena.
